Yet another Pantomime come and gone! Tens of thousands of people came to watch this fantastic Pantomime and a wonderful time was had by all the cast of children and students from the Stage Door School of Dance & Drama. It was an absolute pleasure to work with our Patron - Chris Jarvis - as well as Sue Pollard in a festive, fun packed production. The Stage Door children who appeared in Sleeping Beauty at the Pavilion Theatre, were taken by Chris Jarvis who played Happy Harry in the Pantomime, out to tea with other cast members and their chaperons. As the pictures show a good time was had by all.
On Saturday 29th September 2012
Local boy, Adam Tuffrey presented another of his wonderful shows to raise money for and raise awareness of the Meningitis Trust. 16 Dance Students from the Stage Door School of Dance & Drama joined Adam, Mark, Chris and Swing Unlimited on Stage in what was another amazing event. A great big THANK YOU to all those of you who came to support both us and the Meningitis Trust. Watch this space for details of the sum raised for charity.
He can sing, he can dance and he can raise £8,000 for charity all in one night. Adam Tuffrey’s Music 4 Meningitis show on Saturday hit all the right notes in every way!
Although he’s only just turned 18, this talented, young, singer songwriter looks very at home on stage.
It’s as though he’s been performing all his life which he clearly has, as the audience was shown video footage at the start of Adam strutting his stuff as a tot.
But at the age of eight Adam contracted bacterial meningitis and septicaemia.
Fortunately, he made a full recovery and has been raising money for the Meningitis Trust ever since.
And each year M4M gets bigger and better.
What started as a performance in a primary school hall five years ago is now packing out Bournemouth Pavilion theatre.
As with any variety show featuring such a broad mix of music, comedy and dance – some acts worked better than others, depending on your taste!
Highlights for me included Adam’s new boy band In Accord who sang in such perfect harmony, it would have even put a smile on Simon Cowell’s face.
Adam also convinced some of his fellow students at Bournemouth School to form a choir for the occasion too.
Other key performances included the Stage Door Dance School, Beat Crew, Total Voice, Cantabile and artists Mike Leyton and Anne Batt.
Most of the acts are local and included members of Adam’s family.
He performed a touching duet with his father Duncan, his sister Chloe was one of the stage hands and his mum Trudy gave a sign language interpretation for the entire show.
So what’s next for “Tuffers” and co is anybody’s guess.
Watch this space!
In July 2012 Julie Headford, Co-Principal of the Stage Door School of Dance & Drama, after much hard work, was appointed as an ISTD Examiner in both Modern and Tap. Julie is clearly following in her mother, Maureen's footsteps and this makes the Stage Door School of Dance & Drama the only School in the area to be run by two Examiners and from the same family.

Having celebrated their 40th Birthday, the Stage Door School of Dance & Drama donated £1400 to Macmillan Cancer Support in Dorset.
Pictured below are:- Chrissie Wathen-Neal, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support accepting the cheque from Maureen Headford, Principal of the Stage Door School along with Julie Headford and some pupils who took part in the show.
The Stage Door School of Dance celebrated their 40th Anniversary with a production at the De La Salle Theatre, "A Time To Celebrate". It was in 1971 that Maureen Headford opened the Bournemouth based School and since then assisted by her daughter, Julie it has expanded and today has branches in Bransgore, Sopley and Stanpit.
235 performers aged from 3 years to over seventy dazzled an audience of over 900 people with their talent, professionalism and diversity of training. From the spectacle of 80 ballerinas dressed in tutus, all mainly aged 5 and under presenting "It's a Small World After All" to excerpts from "Lion King", "Wicked", "The Wizard of Oz" and presentations in song and dance including Ballet, Tap, Flamenco, Irish and Bollywood - there was something to entertain everyone. It was a professionally staged, well rehearsed and beautifully costumed show and a credit to all those involved. Special thanks must go to David Morgan from Michael Rose Productions, an ex-student of the Stage Door, who took time out of his busy schedule with "White Christmas" and "Peter Pan" in Southampton, to act as Compere for the show.
In the evening show the cast were thrilled when local celebrity, Chris Jarvis, who is Patron of the Stage Door School of Dance & Drama, rushed back from his own show in Guildford to watch and join the cast on stage to offer his congratulations to everyone for a wonderful performance. Donations of £1400.00 have been made to the Macmillan Support and MND Awareness Society.
"I can't believe it's 40 years since the first dance class was held at the The Stage Door School of Dance & Drama at our Holdenhurst Road premises, where we still are today. I can still remember it - six little 3 year olds learning baby ballet - all of them the children of friends of mine! Since then thousands of children have come to us, some for a short time, but many for much longer periods and then gone on to fulfil their career ambitions with the skills that they have learnt with us. Hopefully, all of them will have benefited from their time with us and enjoyed the wonderful experiences dance can offer.
What better way to celebrate this landmark event by giving all our pupils, young and old, the opportunity to appear in "A Time To Celebrate".
